Repair and Sewing Hubs

The Sewing & Repair Hubs at Chard Community Hub give clothing and household items a second life, while building skills and friendships.

What We Do

  • Clothing Repairs & Alterations – Volunteers mend seams, replace zips, patch holes and adjust hems - saving you money.

  • Soft Furnishing Fixes – Cushions, curtains, table linens - if it’s made of fabric, we can help.

  • Skill Sharing – Whether you're a beginner or experienced, volunteers provide hands-on guidance in sewing and DIY techniques.

  • Creative Projects – Bring your own ideas or start something new in a supportive, friendly environment.

.

Why It Matters

  • Reduce Waste – Mending instead of replacing keeps items out of landfil.

  • Save Money – Repairing a favourite garment or household item is far cheaper than buying new.

  • Build Skills – Learn practical sewing and DIY techniques that increase your independence and creativity.

  • Foster Community – Our sessions are about sharing, not just skills, but stories, tea, laughter, and support.

  • Promote Sustainability – Each repair contributes to a culture of reuse and mindful living in Chard.

Get Involved

  • Bring along items that need repair.

  • Join in to learn, share skills, or mentor others.

  • Volunteer, even if you just help with tea, biscuits, and chat.

  • Donate materials that are often needed, such as thread and zips.
